There’s something incredibly special about photographing a dancer who not only brings passion and discipline to her craft but travels hours just to create with you. Recently, I had the absolute joy of photographing Hadley, a young ballerina from Northern Virginia, who made the drive to Richmond for an Artistic Dance Session in celebration of her 13th birthday.

She trains at Alchemy Ballet Academy, a renowned performing arts school known for its world-class Vaganova ballet training. Under the artistic direction of Lorraine Audéoud Spiegler, Alchemy Ballet Academy has built an outstanding reputation—earning accolades like YAGP Outstanding School and securing a spot in the Top 12 Ensemble at the YAGP Finals in 2024. To say she’s dedicated would be an understatement.

Our session was a blend of elegance and emotion, capturing her artistry in both movement and stillness. She brought the strength and control of her training to every frame, while still allowing space for softness, expression, and creativity. We explored different poses and lighting to highlight not just her technique, but her heart.

This wasn’t just a photoshoot-it was a celebration of everything she’s becoming at this beautiful milestone. Thirteen is such a powerful age, full of potential and promise, and this session reflected that in every way.
